Big Sky Golf Club has an 18-hole course in Pemberton. Located about 30 minutes away from Whistler, it’s a peaceful place with incredible views.
The course is open from about April until mid-October. It’s closed during the colder months of the year, which usually includes late fall and the entirety of winter.
Big Sky Golf Club in Pemberton
Big Sky is one of four popular golf courses near Whistler Village. The others are Fairmont Chateau, Nicklaus North and Whistler Golf Club. Out of all four, Big Sky is the furthest away. It’s located at 1690 Airport Road, which is north of Whistler in Pemberton. Although it’s a longer drive, the course is worth the trip.
The 18-hole course at Big Sky is a par 72 that plays 7,001 yards from the tips. There are four other sets of tee boxes, making it a fun course for all levels. Players are spoiled with amazing views from the first tee. There are huge mountains providing great backdrops throughout the round. The course’s conditions might not be as pristine as other some courses near Whistler, but the scenic setting makes up for it.
Big Sky’s clubhouse is small and simple. The Golf Shop is where players check in and buy apparel and equipment. The Fescues Restaurant is in the same building, and there’s an outdoor patio as well. Close to the parking lot, you’ll see a driving range. There’s a putting green on the way to the first hole. Big Sky also has an academy with programs and lessons for all ages. There’s a 5-hole par 3 course too, which is mainly used for teaching but is also open for drop-in play.
Green Fees
Costs to play the 18-hole course at Big Sky vary depending on your age, the season and time of day.
In the spring of 2024, the prime time rate was $139. In the summer, the green fee increased to $179. It was cheapest to play the course in the fall when prices dropped to $119 each.
Twilight tee times are a $50 discount in any of the three seasons. There are other discounted rates available for children and teenagers as well. Juniors ages 15 and under play for free with a paying adult. Without an adult, the junior rate is $50 throughout the year. Youth ages 16 to 20, meanwhile, pay $119 each.
All green fees include a warm-up basket of range balls. Pull carts are complimentary. Power carts cost an additional $30 per player.
Unlike the main course, Big Sky’s par 3 course is open on a first come, first served basis. It costs $16 for adults to play the 5 holes, and it’s $6 for juniors.
Tips and Advice
The following tips and suggestions are good to know before going to Big Sky Golf Club.
TIP #1: Each green fee includes range balls. Be sure to arrive extra early to take advantage of the various practice facilities.
TIP #2: Big Sky is a relatively flat golf course. There aren’t any big slope changes. This means it’s a good course to walk, especially if you want to appreciate your time in nature even more.
TIP #3: Flags on the greens are all the same colour. Be sure to note the day’s pin placement before teeing off. It’s usually written on a board outside the clubhouse, and there’s a sign beside the practice putting green as well.
TIP #4: Bring your own water bottle. There are water dispensers throughout the course so you can refill several times.
